A week full with “oboe-band music” for baroque oboe and bassoon players
Maestro Onno Verschoor invites baroque oboe and bassoon players to enjoy and learn about the rich woodwind band tradition of the baroque period.
Advanced amateurs and students are welcome to join the band in the inspiring historic “borgo delle arti”, Deruta, a few kilometres from Assisi and Perugia.
It will be a week of inspiring lessons, rehearsals and not to forget the good “Italian life”; we are able to cook our own meals and join good dinners in affordable restaurants. We conclude with a presentation in the historic centre and a final dinner.
The baroque wind band consisted mainly of double reed instruments, ranging from the oboe via taille (F-oboe), tenor-oboe (in C) to bassoon. Usually, the parts were doubled or more, thus forming real wind orchestras. Where the sound of violins wasn’t sufficient, those wind ensembles even replaced string orchestras. When circumstances, like festivities, demanded it, the oboe band was enriched with flutes, brass instruments and percussion. A famous example is Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks.
We will work in Italy with a minimum of three participants (who will stay in Casa “Le tre Muse” in Deruta) to a maximum of ten. The tuning will be a' = 415Hz.
The recorder and baroque bassoon player Hanne Feldhaus, who herself organizes concerts under the ensemble name “Berkelbarock”, provided the incentive for this idea.
