Make music together with like-minded people in historical and inspiring locations, on dates that suite you
Artistic leader Onno Verschoor invites (amateur) musicians to deepen their knowledge of music from the Baroque period and to enjoy making music in an Italian atmosphere.
Advanced amateurs and students are welcome to join the Baroque ensemble in the inspiring historical “Borgo delle Arti”, Deruta, a few kilometers from Assisi and Perugia. The course consists of inspiring lessons, rehearsals and at least one concert and not to forget the good “Italian life”. We reserve affordable restaurants for lunches and dinners if desired. We conclude with a presentation in an historical venue and a closing dinner.
In the Baroque period, there was a flourishing chamber music circuit. The nobility made music to combat boredom, but also to show off their own musical skills to invited guests. The wealthy bourgeoisie had more and more free time and also looked for ways to pass the time. Thanks to new techniques of music printing, compositions by popular composers could be distributed throughout Europe. In free cities such as Amsterdam and Venice, music publishers were active. Popular composers cleverly responded to this and published series of chamber sonatas and chamber cantatas, specially designed for performance by amateurs. Telemann, Vivaldi and Handel in particular, as true cultural entrepreneurs, knew how to earn an extra living from this. Moreover, these publications ensured extra fame and publicity in Europe. Thanks in part to their music collections, these composers are still popular with (amateur) musicians today.
We work with a minimum of three participants (who can stay at Casa “Le tre Muse” in Deruta) to a maximum of ten. The tuning is a' = 415Hz, but modern instruments on a' = 440Hz are also welcome. This depends on which instrumentalists register, whereby we strive for a coherent ensemble.
Chamber music with and without singing from the early and high baroque. If desired, we expand the repertoire to the Renaissance and early classicism.
The repertoire is composed in close consultation with the participants and we take their wishes into account. Optionally, we organize one or two informal concerts in a relaxed atmosphere at the end of the course. The final selection is determined by, among other things, the instruments and voice types present and the general level.
