We are pleased to announce that our summer courses can take place again this year. Especially in these uncertain times we believe that it is important not to give up on the things that add value to life. That is why we have done everything we can, to organize – Corona-proof – courses in Italy and make it a success. The connection between the music and the inspiring environment and between the 'locals' and the students make our courses an unforgettable experience.

Summer courses “Triumph of the Muses”

Thanks to the passionate support of local organizations, including the municipalities of Perugia and Deruta, we can safely organize our summer courses from 20 to 25 July. The Archaeological Museum in Perugia welcomes us this year in the beautiful monastery building in which it is located. We can hardly imagine a more suitable environment.

The students are supported by choral singers from the area, including from the choir 'Girolamo Diruta'. The results of the courses can be heard in the most beautiful hall of Perugia: the Sala dei Notari in the medieval centre. The festive closing performance will take place in the historical ceramics town of Deruta. You will find the program in the attachment.

If you are going to miss the courses this year, it's good to know that we have great plans for next year too!

Dream course “Singing in Italy”

This course is tailor-made for a group of friends who love to sing together. Our Italian singing coach will rehearse well-known and unknown music by mainly Italian composers. At the end of the week we organize a casual performance in an inspiring historical location in the ceramic town of Deruta (Umbria). We organise excursions to some of the most beautiful sites of Umbria. A closing buffet on the “piazza” completes the atmosphere.

“Les Hautbois et Bassons du Roi”

From October 10 to 15, we are organizing a week full of “oboe band music” for baroque oboists and bassoonists in Deruta.

It will be a week of inspiring lessons, rehearsals and not to forget the good “Italian life”; participants can cook their own meals, or enjoy fine dining at local restaurants. We conclude with a presentation in the historic centre and a festive dinner. You can read more about it in the attachment.

Performance “Triumph of the Muses”

...or How music & storytelling have fought pandemics in Europe...

Europe has experienced many pandemics in the past. The plague, also called “Black Death”, is the most famous cause. Fortunately, this disease has been virtually eliminated thanks to improved hygiene, but new diseases have emerged such as cholera, the Spanish flu and now Covid-19. Music has played a major role in making fear and uncertainty more bearable and that music is capable of this even today, as Accademia Amsterdam proves with this performance.

Music of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643—1704) leads the listeners through sadness and despair to sheer joy.

Accademia Amsterdam uses quotes from the “Decamerone” by the 14th-century Italian Giovanni Boccaccio.
