Accademia Amsterdam invites music and art lovers to celebrate the summer in Italy with music, dance and good cuisine. Happily, the corona restrictions are gradually loosening, and we continue our activities.

Below, you read about our courses and concerts, and how we adapt to the circumstances, if needed.

Summer Courses “Triumph of the Muses”

Thanks to the support of the Italian local authorities, we were able to organize our summer courses in 2020. Safe, and smaller than originally planned, they were very successful nevertheless.

In 2021 our summer courses in Perugia (Umbria) will take place from July 20 - 24, with an additional performance in Deruta on July 25.

We invite amateur musicians and dancers, of medium level to semi-professionals, to celebrate the “Triumph of Muses”. For (amateur) choir singers especially, we offer extra workshops at a very attractive rate. A local Italian choir might join the vocal ensemble during the performances.

Join dance tutor Ricardo Barros for an intensive course focusing on dances published in 1720 & 1721.

We also organize drawing & painting courses and Italian cooking under guidance of our inspiring teachers.

As Accademia Amsterdam did in 2020, we take the current COVID measures onto account, without sacrificing your experience. Of course, for us counts too: safety first!

It is expected that the many travel restrictions to Italy will expire from mid-June. Performance “Triumph of the Muses”

...or how the pandemics in Europe have been fought with music and story-telling...

Over the centuries, music has played a major role in making the fear and uncertainty of epedimias more bearable.

Accademia Amsterdam initiates a “COVID-proof” project with comforting music by Charpentier, combined with light-footed excerpts from dante's “Decamerone”.

The central work is Marc-Antoine Charpentiers (1643—1704) “Pestis Mediolanensis” or the Plague of Milan. This oratorio for soloists and instrumental ensemble celebrates the good deeds of the Bishop of Milan during an outbreak of the bubonic plague in the late 16th century.
The work describes the misery but also the gratitude for the disappearance of the disease. The heavenly music gives the listener hope and peaceful perspective.

Gratitude is celebrated in Charpentier's famous “Te Deum”, which concludes the program. Everyone knows the opening part, because it is used as the tune of the Euro Song Festival.

The concerts planned for June 2021 have to be cancelled due to the COVID restrictions taken by the Dutch government. But we'll be back after the summer with a choice of soloists. An international tour is being organised as well. Follow us to learn about the exact performance dates.
